Our Primary Strategic Aim is:
To provide the best possible education for our pupils.
By this we mean a broad and balanced education which allows each child to develop to his/her maximum potential.
This ‘best possible education’ is provided through delivery of the five outcomes of the Government’s ‘ Every Child Matters ‘ agenda:
· To enjoy and achieve in all aspects of school life
· To be healthy
· To stay safe
· To make a positive contribution
· To achieve economic wellbeing
To enjoy and achieve in all aspects of school life
o In a typical year Ramsbury School would expect to be in the Upper Quartile of schools nationally in terms of Added Value performance in the 3 major Core Subjects of English, Maths and Science as measured in official DFES statistics.
o In the other Core Subject of Religious Education, and in the Foundation Subjects such as ICT, Art, Physical Education, History and Geography, Ramsbury School endeavours to deliver the full breadth of the subject and expects all pupils to gain a minimum of Level 4 at Key Stage 2 with a significant number achieving Level 5 before moving to secondary education.
o In all areas of the curriculum and school life we put strong emphasis on challenge and pupil enjoyment which we monitor regularly through pupil tracking.
o We are particularly proud of our offering in Music. The School has an orchestra and a choir and all children have the opportunity to learn a tuned instrument. We expect at least 50% of junior children to take up this opportunity.
o We aim for 100% attendance of Year 6 pupils at the Annual School Camp which offers exciting physical activity and social development opportunities.
To be healthy
We encourage our pupils to:
o Actively participate in sport and physical exercise both during the school day and in after school clubs.
o Walk to school, where possible, and learn to cycle and swim.
o Understand the importance of diet and of eating healthy foods.
o Show and talk about their emotions and learn to cope with life’s highs and lows.
To stay safe
We aim to provide:
o A safe and secure environment within the school.
o An awareness of the dangers that exist in the world at large.
o Development of individual self confidence to be able to say no.
To make a positive contribution
We place great importance on developing our pupils to be ‘good citizens’ and encourage them to:
o Act responsibly in their everyday school life, showing respect for others and thinking carefully about their actions.
o Learn about and help less fortunate people and support causes both in the Ramsbury community and beyond, including the developing world, for example, through fundraising activities.
o Understand and implement their responsibilities towards the environment.
To achieve economic wellbeing
Here we aim to engage and work in partnership with parents by:
o Providing the quality of academic and personal education described above.
o Communicating regularly with them about their child and about broader aspects of school life.
o Consulting on ways to improve the School through Focus/Parent Groups.
o Embracing change( such as the Extended Schools initiative ) in a positive and flexible manner.
We recognise that a professional, well motivated team of teaching and support staff is a key element in our success. We aim to provide all staff members with:
o Leadership and support.
o A positive disciplined learning environment that allows them to develop pupils.
o Teamwork and a positive ambience in the staff room.
To play a positive and active role in the Ramsbury community
We believe our pupils are particularly fortunate to be part of a village which has such a strong sense of community spirit. We aim to help them understand the benefits of this supportive environment and to develop a sense of belonging. Equally, we want them to recognise their responsibilities to the community and to actively participate in community events.
